Happiness is the Key to Success

Happiness – a sacred word craved by so many, appears to be felt by a few.  A feeling that is everyone’s right but not everyone’s possession. A hidden gem with the potential to set lives aglow. Happiness is also an attitude. It is an algorithm that can only be encoded/decoded by qualified programmers. It is like a world, a huge universe ironically with few inhabitants. Happiness is a skill, only for the wise.

Now, here’s the question, can everyone be happy? Does everyone have the right to be happy?
Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes happiness as a state of well-being and contentment; a pleasurable or satisfying experience.
In contrast, greediness, envy, bitterness, worry breed unhappiness? Absolutely! So why would people decide to exude the elements mentioned above? Why give yourself so much headache when it’s obvious that the negative vibes in you cannot alleviate your situation?
Vance Havner once said, “Worry is like a rocking chair. It will give you something to do but won’t get you anywhere.”
Happiness and Success are intertwined. They are directly proportional to each other. The most successful people on earth are not those who greedily stash millions of Naira for themselves, nor the employee who grumbles at every task assigned with. Neither are they people who shrink in difficult times, evaporate when societal responsibilities come calling nor people who curse their ill luck or societal background for their failure. They are people who derive pleasure, satisfaction and fulfilment from their daily activities. From the moment they rise from their bed to the last act performed to wrap up their day.
Happy people achieve success every passing hour. How? Because whatever task before them is done wholeheartedly and this quicken the spate of results. I recently read a blog post where the writer said he set the tone for a bright day by ensuring he lays his bed neatly after waking up every morning. The careful thought put into the act of laying his bed gives him the fulfilment that he has achieved something – though you may call it petty – and this positively impinges on his vibe and attitude for the rest of the day.
Success is a mindset likewise happiness. Happiness doesn’t come overnight. It’s a careful practice that involves giving your best shot at everything you do such that you get value for every weight thrown.
Can one remain happy even in trying times? Well, Yes. This is very possible if one refuse to dwell so much on the problem. What we fail to know is that the after effect of a bad situation – which I call broken pieces - could be used to create a beautiful pattern. Funny enough, Happiness isn't about getting what you want all the time, it's about loving what you have.
Next time you feel down by any not-so-fantastic situation, pick up positive and strive to be better. Remember, life is too short so live life and be happy. Because in the end, no matter how long you live, you'll be dead longer and it is the little moments that made you and people around you smile that would count most.
Live free, Be Happy!
