Good morning friend, I warmly usher you into another inspiring edition of Success Stimulants. I want to believe that you’ve started building blocks towards a successful 2016.

Today, we are going to start a vital topic ‘Recipe For Success’ which will span a few weeks. We will break down the recipe for success and dissect every of its components; also, its application to our lives and everyday activities.

DILIGENCE AND SUCCESS

 

Hardly does a day passes by without a success story being recorded somewhere. Whether it is a little child finally taking his/her first baby steps or a boy perfecting his bicycle riding skills. It could also be a breakthrough in a business deal or excelling in an entrance examination after so many attempts. The tender joy and euphoria that accompanies a brilliant success cannot be rivaled. Of course, who wouldn’t want to enjoy such moments.

However, most people who dream to be successful are blind to the breathtaking risk, ridiculous attempts and daunting tasks victors go through during process of attaining substantial success. Not only do some not know,  they also lack the right tactical nous - or in this case -, the right recipe needed to concoct a winning formula and weave through stormy situations.
One of the sine qua non for attaining success is diligence. This recipe (diligence) will help you forge ahead and remain focused as you tread the path of success. 

Diligence is a term used to characterise steady, earnest and energetic effort. It is an unceasing and painstaking pursuit of tangible result. It is marked by careful unremitting attention to a cause or persistent application of efforts. It is effortfully going through physically and emotionally demanding process to achieve success.

The stark difference between successful people and less successful ones is a large of diligence. It is a good, in fact, great attribute to be intelligent. However, intelligence alone won't get you to the top. The Holy Book says in Proverbs 22:29,"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand

before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."

I remember at the end of my first year in the university, my friends and I sat together to discuss the bane of our relatively average semester result. We are bunch of smart dudes with astute brainpower. Fortunately, we were able to trace our failure to the fact that we couldn't intertwine a great measure of seriousness or diligence with our intelligence. We were nonchalant with studies. We missed lectures (rather intentionally) and leave projects and assignments undone till the last hour. After we rectified these shortcomings, our results remarkably improved.

Unwavering diligence is required to break through in life. Great ideas will always pop up in our head but it is only diligence that will guarantee realisation of these ideas. Cultivate the habit of exerting an extra force to complete assigned tasks. A diligent man does not allow a task once undertaken to remain uncompleted; rather aims at finishing the task in no time. A diligent person continually works hard towards his or her goals. Such person maximises resources and opportunities available and he or she is dedicated to achieving quality results. It is also important to note that diligence is not a function of talent but employs commitment, hard work and persistence to transform vision into reality. Not only should you think things through but follow through as well. Diligent people invest time, thought and energy in whatever task they do as these, if well applied are the major prerequisites for a bountiful dividends.

English author, Samuel Johnson once said,"What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence."

American surgeon, Atul Gawande treads similar line -"We always hope for the easy fix; the one simple change that will erase a problem in a stroke. But few things in life work this way. Instead, success requires making a hundred small steps go right - one after the other, no goofs, everyone pitching in."
