6 Vital Ways to be Resolute with your New Year Propositions
Wow! I'm
so happy you made it! Happy New Year my friend. Glad to have you here.
I'm
convinced this year is going to be the best yet for you. However, there are
just a few things that could help you start the year on a great note (like you
definitely want).
I know
we're now at that point where New Year resolutions would begin to fly in here
and there. People would begin to make meaningfully (at times outrageous)
pledges for the New Year. But the truth is, only a handful get to follow
through with their propositions. This may be due to unforeseen negating
circumstances or personal ineptitude. Research has shown that only 8% of people
who make resolutions actually achieve them. So statistically, I bet you're one
of those who didn't. Not to worry, you could join the elite list of the 8%
mentioned above.
1. Be
Specific: Being specific with goals give a salient view of your intention.
People often state an overview of their resolutions leaving behind the
concrete details needed to achieve them. The difference between a
realistic and a utopian goal lies between this blind gap. It's not just enough to word goals with
indefinite terms. Rather, be specific. 'I want to lose 10kg weight by April
this year' sounds more realistic than 'I want to lose weight'.
2. No
Overloading: Imagine a Keke Napep loaded with 25 bags of Dangote Cement.
Horrible, right? Well, that's the way some people load up their lives with
goals such that they would be rendered immobile in the course of the year; just like the Keke would be
unable to move an inch. And at the end, they won't be better off than they
started the year. Now, imagine the quantity reduced to 5 bags. The keke would
move with ease and probably move fast enough to make four more rounds of trip
to pick up the remaining 20 bags. Keep your goals as simple, short and precise
as possible. I know you might have a million and one things to achieve this
year (some of which could be carryovers from last year). But not rushing them
all at once would guarantee speedy success than putting yourself under undue
pressure by running all concurrently. There's a high tendency you might get
choked and give up on them all.
3.
Resilience: Resilience is the ability to get back up on your feet when life
knocks you down. People with resilient attribute are like proverbial cat with
nine lives. Resilience is a thing of the mind. It is a habit, an attitude. It
takes a mentally strong man to carry on and never give up whenever failure
creeps in. Nothing great comes easy. Successful people today are those who
imbibe this attribute in their day-to-day activities. And this is just
about what you need to see out your goals.
4.
Periodic Checkup: Consistently carry out a regular performance assessment of
each goal you've mapped out. You can make it a daily, weekly or monthly review
as it applies to each goal. Build up a checklist of the task each goal entails.
Ask yourself questions like, how much have I been able to achieve? What
have I left out? What do I need to do or add to successfully see out this goal?
What am I missing out? This would ensure you're constantly put your goals at
the forefront. Also, it will help identify lapses for quick adjustment.
5. Be
Assertive: Never for once should you doubt your potential. Trust and believe in yourself. We all know the road to success is always rough but remaining self- assured will help you conquer all fears of success. Winston Churchill famously said, "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." The starting point of all achievement is desire to succeed void of any cloud of fear or doubt. The moment you end up losing faith in yourself marks the beginning of your downfall while the moment you end up trusting yourself marks the beginning of your resurgence. You can only achieve something great when you quit being a self-saboteur.
6. God
factor: Need I emphasise this much? Irrespective of your belief system or
religious background. I'm sure you agree that there's little to where the human
strength can take you. That's where God comes in. Humans are always quick to
make propositions that best suit them. But the biggest mistake would be leaving
God out of the proposition. This year, build a genuine relationship with God.
Put God in charge of your life. Surrender whatever your wants or needs are to
Him. Make Him the true author and finisher of your life and you'd be amazed at
how quick He'll help you with your heart desires. Trust me, it's a tried,
tested and authentic relationship.
That
is just about all you need to see out your New Year resolutions this year. I
wish you a fantastic year ahead as you set out on your personal life changing resolutions.
